Electronic Recycling

In collaboration with Dell, Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan is the hub of electronic recycling for this region. Video game consoles that don’t work, computer peripherals, motherboards, and other electronics are recycled and eventually turned into new electronics. This process prevents multiple tons of toxic waste from entering the environment.¬†

Why Recycle Your Electronics?

Natural Resources

Many materials can be recovered from electronic components when they are recycled. These recovered materials can be used to create new electronics. As a result of electronic recycling and reusing materials fewer new resources will need to be mined and created. Roughly 15% of gold used in electronic components is recovered, this means 85% has to be mined from the earth to meet demand.

Save The Environment

Older electronics are made with toxic chemicals including lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium. Dumping these into the environment releases these chemicals which harms the environment in many ways. Old CRT monitors can contain between 4 to 8 pounds of lead - environmental exposure to lead can cause widespread health issues for both humans and animals.

Data Security

With data security making headlines many people are nervous about recycling their old computers. When you recycle electronics with Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan we have a thorough process the ensure data is erased and destroyed on all donated components that store data. This includes game consoles, tablets, laptops, desktops, and any other smart device.
