Why Work Program

The Why Work program provides work experience, case management, job development, job placement, and job retention services to individuals seeking these services. Why Work places individuals in retail, administrative assistant/clerical, custodial or manufacturing industries!

*Participants must be referred by a funding entity, which includes state or private vocational rehabilitation providers.

Our Goal

Our goal for the Why Work program is to provide individuals with every tool they will need to secure meaningful, competitive, and fulfilling employment so they can improve their life and become self sufficient.

We help you get experience.

Program participants complete up to 200 hours of work experience with one of Goodwill’s teams.  Work experience opportunities are available in retail (AM or afternoon hours), administrative assistant/clerical (AM or afternoon hours), custodial (afternoon hours only), and manufacturing (AM or afternoon hours).

Participants receive job coaching, case management and other supports during this time. When participants are ready for outside competitive employment, they begin participating in job development services, including resume creation, mock interviews and other work readiness activities.

We prepare you for employment.

You get job security!

Our staff work with area employers to match the participant’s skills with a need they have in their workforce.  Once placed in competitive community employment participants receive support through their first 90 days on the job.

Work Variety

Employers look for flexibility and experience in many aspects, this is why we incorporate working evening hours for those in retail training.
