Adult Education

Education is paramount to improving someone’s life. We know this at Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan, that’s why we go the extra mile to help adult learners obtain the necessary education to pass their GED exam. Wondering what “going the extra mile” means?

About the GED Program

Adult education can be intimidating, especially if you have not been in a classroom in years. Those that haven’t graduated from high school can still get a high school equivalency diploma, also called a GED.  We do our best to remove any intimidating aspect to continuing education. As a result, any day of the week you will find adult learners from 18 – 65 (yes, really!).

We have a dedicated team that runs our GED program. Passing the test to get your GED certificate is our goal and we will work with you until you’ve mastered every subject. GED classes are designed to give you the best possible outcome. We also know that learning on an empty stomach is challenging that’s why we serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner 5 days a week in our education center.

Why Bother With an Education?

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, earnings increase and unemployment decreases as educational attainment rises. Grouping workers by education level, the chart shows that those with more education have higher earnings and lower rates of unemployment than those with less education.

The Diploma Process

  • When you decide to come in you will take a placement test – this is just to determine where we start to help you build a solid foundation.
  • We know that life is busy and adding in class time can make it even busier  – We’re here Mon/Wed: 8am-5:30pm, Tue/Thurs: 8am-7pm, and every other Saturday!
  • When you feel like you’re prepared you’ll take a readiness test (GED Practice test)
  • If the practice test goes well you will then take the GED test – doing well on the practice test results in a high passing rate for the actual test (about a 90% passing rate!).
